We have the pleasure of introducing you to Ioanna Papadopoulou, Software Engineering Manager for Microsoft D365 at Deloitte Greece. 1. How was your first-day experience at Deloitte Greece and how would you describe your journey so far to the role of Software Engineering Manager for Microsoft D365?

My first days at Deloitte were at the beginning of COVID, so they were a bit challenging for everyone. Since then though, I’ve managed to grow, learn from my colleagues and got to know so many different people willing to guide and support me. 

2. What attracts you the most to the company's organizational culture?

I would say teamwork, inclusion and diversity. There are even dedicated communities focused on the last two: “Her.Net” & “SheLeads”, which empower women to pursue careers in the STEM sector and grow professionally, and “Globe”, which appeals to all LGBTQ+ members. We all come as we are at Deloitte and we have the full support of the Company. 

3. In your opinion, how does a good manager build an employee experience in their team that keeps the colleagues motivated?

By being open, listening and fostering a collaborative team environment.  We can always achieve more as a team than as individuals.

4. As a manager, do you actively participate, along with the HR team, in the recruitment process? What benefits does your company offer to attract talented candidates from the labor market? Is employee well-being part of the company's promise?

Yes, we always support HR in the recruitment process by participating in career days or events, but I am mostly focused on technical interviews. 

Regarding benefits, Deloitte offers a hybrid model of work, continuous learning opportunities, private medical insurance, financial support for remote working, discounts on shops/gyms/etc., special gifts/bonuses for parents and many many more. 

Well-being is part of this as well. The Company offers various benefits such as extra vacation days (D-Days) for Christmas, Easter and Summer, wellness seminars, a 24/7 psychological support line, social and sports clubs, massage sessions at the office, healthy meals and more!

5. The field of your activity is not an easy one. How do you keep your technical skills up to date? Do you have access to e-learning programs?

Yes, Deloitte offers unlimited access to several e-learning platforms like LinkedIn Learning, Udemy, etc, as well as access to free certification vouchers for your area of expertise. Also, there is Deloitte University abroad, a university for Deloitters across the region to come together, network and develop their skills. Last year, I attended the “Global Manager Milestone event” at the Deloitte University in Belgium, where we had the opportunity to participate in intense training courses with experienced Coaches that made our learning experience even more effective and fun. Additionally, having access to Deloitte’s network is very important. You can always refer to colleagues all around the world, who could help and guide you in their areas of knowledge.

6. Finally, what advice would you give to candidates who are considering applying to Deloitte Greece?

I would suggest they invest in themselves and start building their “personal brand”.  For tech-related roles, I would suggest developing a strong knowledge in the technical areas  (in English), like algorithms, data structures, etc., while also working on their soft skills.  It is important to know the correct answer, but even if you don’t, just be honest and try to show your willingness to learn and grow.
